On Friday, April 15 2016, at approximately 16:15 local time, a tornado classified F3 on the Fujita-Pearson scale, with winds above 250 km/h, hit the city of Dolores (20.000), situated in the west part of the country, Uruguay. This city is located in an area called “South American Tornado Corridor". Tornados are scarce, but Uruguay has historical records of this phenomenon with some severe cases with victims and destruction. It was decreed official mourning because of the five deaths and over 250 wounded people occurred because of the tornado.

Solidarity came “from everywhere". People from several nearby locations "are giving a hand, helping. Solidarity is overwhelming. There are gangs of Mercedes, Cañada Nieto, of sports clubs. Everyone bring out things and help to cover the roofless houses with nylon used in portable silos " said a witness on the spot.

Among these volunteers, the Scouts of Uruguay and FASGU members have been very active since the alarm was raised in donating, collecting and classifying donations of clothing, mattresses, blankets, food, medicines, building materials etc. and sending trucks to Dolores and elsewhere. FASGU members were helping in their respective fields of action and Beatriz did it along with fellow scouts and Red Cross members, classifying donations in a TV studio specially adapted for that purpose.

Simultaneously, a low pressure front went deeply into the Uruguayan territory, causing heavy raining in few hours, thus flooding  many regions (Colonia, San José, Durazno, Treinta y Tres, Rocha) , which had to be evacuated by above 10.000 people. Therefore, the solidarity campaign resumed, now directed to these countrymen which became homeless in a very short period.
Cooperative actions are still underway and will continue for the next two weeks, as minimum.

I have seen photos on Facebook from Beatriz concerning the cooperation with Red Cross and FASGU. Can you please give me a small story for what purpose and what has been done and why. I alreadu downloaded the photos that have been published on Facebook by Beatriz. I understood that there was a inundation in the provinces of Durazno and Treinta y Tres and families had to evacuate. I am right now writing the Central Branch Newsletter and I want to share this good turn to other ISGF members.
